Well i have had my beardie (male) for about 5 years and he's always been cool. However, for the past ... 6 months he has stopped eating veg and salad. He would always eat crickets and locusts but for the past 2 months , now he will only eat wax worms and locusts, and he will pretty much ignore the crickets.
I even stopped feeding him live food for 3 weeks and just offered salad, but he lost weight and just wouldn't touch it. So i had to offer live food again.
Yesterday i tried again with veg and when i came home he hadn't touched it and was just asleep under his hide.
Is this worrying? I'm not sure what is going on with him.
The only reptile i could help with would ba corn snake i just stoped by because im thirsty and you offered water for an answer and i think this is an answer
Go to the vets! maybe its a stage hes going through but i think you should check it out with a vet.
My first thought is what someone else had said, he may be brumating, (hibernation for reptiles ) Normally a beardie will go off food all together, but not always. As beardies get older, they prefer more and more veggies over crickets or any type of worms. Has there been any change in his tank temp? It could have triggered him to go into brumation. Is he pooping ok? If not he could have a blockage, my first suggestion is to give him a warm bath for about 20 minutes, it will help him (only if he isn't pooping regularly).
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Make sure all of this temps and his basking spot are what they should be, and make sure he has the proper UV, I'm sure you do, you've had him for so long now.
If he isn't losing weight, and he is pooping fine, there isn't much too worry about. If you notice this happening you may need to take him to the vet
Since you've had him for 5 years, I'm going to assume you know the basics (which many don't)
Check his UV light to make sure he can digest the food, this should be changed every 6 months. Check his cage temps 80-95 C
What do you line his cage with? Some things can get stuck in their belly (compaction) and he can't pass them. Is he pooping regularly? If not a trip to the vet is in order.
It might just be that he is Brumating for the winter ... Mine didn't for the first few years but decided to all of a sudden.
