How do I know if my gecko is asleep or not?

I just got two Golden Tailed Geckos this morning (Strophurus Taenicauda) and since they don't have eye lids, how am I supposed to know if they're asleep or awake?

I also have a heat mat, lamp and a UV light for them (UV light even though its not needed but just to be safe) are there any other things I'll need for them and is the UV light necessary?
Yes the UV light is needed it gives the reptile much need vitamins and helps digestion.

i have a crested gecko and he also has no eyelids. Since geckos and reptiles in general are nocturnal,

they tend to sleep during the day so if you look at their eyes and the pupils are really small and hard to see he is asleep but if they are like normal he is awake

and remember to only have the UV light on during the day so you don't mess him up thinking its day when its night;)

hope this helped: D
