I am going to be breeding ball pythons for the first time this year. And recently i have heard people saying that they see their male ball pythons are producing sperm. How can i tell if mine is doing this.
If you know how to pop a ball python, checking for sperm plugs is very similar. If you don't know how to pop, don't worry too much about it. It is just an indicator that a male is old enough and ready to breed so that large scale breeders know which males to place in which cage and when. If you only have a few snakes, then you probably only have one or two males to choose from for breeding purposes. Large-scale breeders are trying to maximize profits by putting the right male in with the right female at just the PERFECT time so that they can rotate him out to the next female as soon as possible.
I've never personally checked for sperm plugs on my males (although I've noticed them inadvertently) because my collection is small enough that I can just leave a chosen male in with a female all season long. It's just less stress for everyone involved (especially the little guy doing the work).

First how old is he and what does he weigh in grams. If you don't know his weight in grams you shouldn't be breeding. Second, if you don't know if he's producing sperm plugs, I assume you don 't know how to pop/probe, so don't. If you keep him in a clean tank/tub you will notice his sperm plugs, for some reason they seem to mostly "drop" their sperm plugs in the water dish. If he's above 500 grams and going into his 2nd winter it's pretty much guaranteed that he has sperm plugs. Don't breed at a lighter weight or age unless you know what you're doing. You can kill the male by stressing him too much .
PLEASE do some research on breeding and don't rely on the yahoo answer 'experts' to tell you what to do. The first place I suggest you start
