Ball python questions?

  Here are my questions:

1. How big does a ball python get in one year?

2. Does a ball python rub his nose only if he has an infection? (NOT IN SHED PHASE)

3. How often do I feed a 4 month old ball python, and what do I feed him?

4. Is GODZILLA a good name for a ball python?
Here are my answers, LOL:

1. It depends on the snake, but most of mine reach 600-1000g by one year old ... not sure of the lengths, but I'd guess 3-3.5 feet in that time. Females tend to grow larger than males, so expect them to look bigger after a year.

2. I've only seen mine rub their noses to start a shed, so I'd imagine the only other reason would be infection - like scale rot or mouth rot. Could just have an itch, though, if it's something you only notice once in a great while. Have you checked for mites?

3. Once a week is fine, and how much depends on how big the snake is. For most 4 month-old BPs, I would probably be feeding them one small adult mouse. Two is fine if your snake wants, as long as you 're not letting him get too chunky ... a healthy young ball python should be slightly rounded but not SUPER round, and if they're looking "triangular" they need more food. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

4. Sure, if that's what you like! Seems like more of a lizard name (perfect for a Tegu), but it could work for a ball python. :-)
Growth depends on how much he'll eat in that time. The more they eat the more they'll grow. Snakes will often rub their nose on the cage. Basically he's looking for a way out. As long as he's not doing it excessively to the point that he's hurting himself, it's ok. Even young ball pythons can usually take an adult mouse. I recommend feeding pre-killed mice just for the safety of the snake. Two adult mice per week is a good bet. You want to feed the snake food that is a little bit bigger around than the widest part of the snake's body. When the snake gets bigger you can even switch to small rats. Again I would feed pre-killed. You can buy frozen feeder rodents at many pet stores or online at places like http://www.rodentpro.com. I buy a lot of them at a time so I save on shipping. I just get them out of the freezer and thaw them out in a cup of hot water as I need them. It's actually cheaper for me to buy them online than get them at a pet store. Even after the shipping charge.
