About milk snakes? (Please answer!)?

Well, first of this a picture of my 2year old, 3ft milksnake:

He is fed on 4pinkies a week ..

His vivarium is 2ft long and 1ft in height and width ...

His aspen bedding is about 2 or 3 inches thick, he has a lovely little rock cave which he likes, a water bowl, a green heat lamp in one end .. And a little 'tree' which he climbs in ...

Is this okay?

Please give me very detailed answers my dad wants to know more ...

Thank you!

His foods needs upscaling, he shouldn't be eating 4 pinkies a week at that size. That is just wrong. Start feeding him larger food sizes until he is on an adult mouse a week.

He needs two hides, one at the 'hot' end of his viv and one at the 'cool' end.

Hope that helps, good luck with your snake.
As i said b4 try feeding him A Hopper Mouse, a Weened Mouse, or a Small Rat Pup

As for aspen it is ok they will some times want to burrow down there.

(Can you take a pic of your enclosure Thnx)
The set up sounds OK so far. Have you got a bulb guard for the heat lamp? If you don't, get one straight away, as your snake will climb up around it and get burned by it as some point.

Also, you will need a dimming thermostat to run the bulb off of. This will keep the temperatures at the level you set, so will should not overheat, which can happen if the bulbs are left permanently on.

Also, have you got a digital thermometer yet to measure the temperatures yet? These have long probes that you can put on the basking spot or wherever you like, and will give a very accurate temperature reading. Don't use the strip thermometers used on glass for fish tanks at all, and be aware that the dial air temperature thermometers will not show the actual temperature of the basking spot, only the background air temperature, which is much lower. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

These thermometers are quite cheap from reptile shops, and some have a good min/max function as well.

Lastly, you should really start feeding him on larger mice. The general rule is to feed something that is about the same thickness of the snake's thickest point (they can stretch a lot, trust me, I was worried as well at first.) I would have thought that at 2 years old, he would be eating a small mouse each week, if not a bigger mouse. Like I said, get mice that are about the same thickness as the snake's thickest point, but don't worry if you go over that limit, as they can actually take something 1.5 times as thick as the thickest point happily, it just saves you from worrying too much this way though.

If you continue to feed him pinkies, you will likely stunt his growth, and he will become malnourished in time, so you really need to start changing onto larger mice. Do it reasonably slowly though, start off with fluffs, then small small mice, then the small mice it should be able to eat, or whatever is the thickness of its thickest point.

If in doubt, take it tou your local reptile shop, and they will be able to tell you what it would be eating.

If you need more guidance, buy a good care book on milk/kingsnakes from your reptile shop, and understand what it has to say in there. Just make sure it was printed after about 2000 though, as there are still some out of date manuals around still.

Apart from that, it looks like a lovely milksnake, and I am envious of you, as I would love to have a Sinaloan milsnake of my own eventually.

Good luck, hope it helps
