Hi, I got a snake yesterday. She's a Royal Python and she's 3 and a half months old, feeds & sheds well.
Whenever I hold her, she always wriggles up to my face and flicks her tongue out (She doesn't strike at my face, only wriggles up really close) but I pull her back before she gets too close.
She seems to really seem persistent on getting close to my face, I was sat down and I looked away for a moment, and she was halfway up my neck.
What does this mean? Is she going to bite me, or is she just exploring and the type of snake that likes to wrap around your neck? I'm 13 year old girl, so i don't have much experience with snakes, but my mum has plenty. She said that her snakes did it too.
Should I let her go to my face?
It will either be attracted to the heat coming out of your mouth or nose. Or be attracted to the sound vibrations coming out on your mouth. Your face just gives off a lot of sensory information that it likes to investigate.
Hi there. Congrads on your new friend. He or she is getting close to your face because there is heat generated there and you were probably talking etc. He or she can feel the heat which is why it started arounf the neck./

the flicking of the tongue is to taste the area and then see if it recognizes the smell. they stick out ther tongue place it int he top of the mouth then it tastes the area but placing the tongue on the gland at the top of his mouth which sends a message tot he brain that this is the smell.
