He is about 2 - 2 1/2 feet now. Was eating a regular mouse every sunday for a while now. Tried a jumbo mouse today. Took him significantly longer to eat (get it past his mouth and down his neck area) but didn 't seem to make TOO big of a difference in size when finally in his stomach. the jumbo mouse was the same size as his fattest part (his mid section) or maybe a cm larger
is this ok?
should he still eat every sunday, or should I start a ten day schedule?
is a jumbo mouse equivalent to a small rat?
any help greatly appreciated! sorry for so many questions at once!
Hello,
It's hard to say because JUMBO could be a whole slew of different sizes. As a general rule, feed your ball python a mouse/rat that is the same size as the thickest part of the snake.
I would highly recommend you switch your snake over to rats. Your snake will eventually require larger food, and it is much harder to switch food once your snake is fully grown.

As far as schedule, you need to pay close attention to the eating habits of your snake. How fast your snake digests is the key. As long as your snake is living in the proper enclosure, at the proper temps and humidity you should be able to feed every 7-10 days. If you are thinking about increasing the time between feeds, move from 7 to 8 days, rather then 10.
No, a jumbo mouse is not always the same as a small rat.
First of all, after a certain size, about 2 feet, your only supposed to feed once every 2 weeks. And as for mice, put your fingers around his fattest part, and remember that size, the mouse should be about as big as that part of your snake.
it sounds ok yes
feed your snake on the schedule you think ... if it gets too fat then decrease, to thin increase.
a mouse item should put a slight bump within your snakes stomach after consumption. any bigger then decrease, any smaller increase.
The mouse shouldn't be more than 1.5 times the widest part of the snakes abdomen. If it isnt then that is fine.

Should be fine. I go with a 10-14 feeding schedule. They are inactive snakes so they don't need to feed every 7 days.
