I have an 8ft Brazilian Redtail Boa. She was with my ex for 8 months. He said he'd take care of her. But when I went to pick her up (i finally got a home for her) she was emaciated. He hadn 't fed her or given her any water. I've been trying to help her build muscle and get back into good health, but its been almost a year and she's not back to how she was. Should it take this long? How can I help her get better faster? She eats just fine, she digests fine, and she's gained some weight. But I want her to be strong again so I don't feel like i'm going to break her when i pick her up.
It will indeed take time for her to come back from an emaciated condition - just take it slow, don't feel tempted to feed too much at once, and give her quality prey items. If you can, breed your own rats to ensure she's getting good-quality nutrition that you know exactly what's going into her.
Thats a fine snake you got there. But anyways how you help it gain weight is try feeding it once a week (if your not already.) and if your feeding it large mice then switch to rabbits. I know, i know rabbits are cute and its sad to see them get the **** strangled out of them but your boa will be back to health in a couple of months. If your feeding it rabbits switch to median size ducks. Hope this helps.
