Can i put my ball python in an old gerbil cage?

i was at the pet Store yesterday and my buddy mike gave me an old 10Gl gerbil cage because i was getting a ball python at the puyallup reptile expo today he said clean it out good so i came home and scrubbed it out then rinsed it with hot hot water i did it like 3 times but when i woke up it still smelled like gerbil a little im washing it Again right now but if it doesn't come all the way clean can i still put my ball python in it?
A ball python requires heat and humidity which will be nearly impossible to achieve in an old gerbil cage. I recommend getting off on the right foot, and purchasing an enclosure which has been specifically designed for ball pythons. Although it may be more expensive, it will save you (and your snake) a lot of stress over the next 30 + years.
No you can not put him in there. he may think that there is a food in it and then this can cause frustration and aggression. Use 1/2 cp vinegar to 1 cup of water. (hot)

allow the tank to soak then wash out with hot water. then spray with vinegar leave out in the heat pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

this will assit in removing the smell. rinse again in hot water, depending on how long the gerbil was in there, the smell may have soaked into the glue and may not come out.
He may think there is food inside, because water alone will not remove the smell. so I would bleach it. and a 10gal would work as long as its a baby. but ball pythons can get up to 4-5 feet. The general rule of thumb is to have a cage with a perimeter 2 times bigger than that of the snakes length.
NO! don't put him in that. You need a nice 20-40 gallon "critter tank" for it. Use a safe substrate such as cypress mulch (holds humidity very well) and get all of the "musts" (water bowl, temperature gauges, hide box etc) If you put him in that tank its going to cause him to stress out. Which leads to aggression and irritation. This isn ' t a good thing for you or your snake. Also I must remind you MUST HAVE a hide box. If ball pythons don't have one they will stress out. This can lead to eating problems etc. (which could lead to death) Make sure you know exactly what you are doing before you get the ball python. Do a bit of research. Hope this helped a little.
