I just go two leopard geckos last night I had been reading stuff about them for a while on the internet and became very interested in purchasing one. When i got to the store I ended up buying two. I got meal worms and crickets and the whole cage set up and what not. But I'm not how much and how often they should be fed the pinhead crickets. The leopard geckos I have now are 3 months old. I put 4 in the cage and the one gecko ate all 4 within about 3 mins. Should I put more in??? Idk the other one only ate two.Im so confuseddd.
at that age you should feed them regularly and i would say each of them should have roughly 6 small crickets and coat them in calcium powder before feeding. as one is showing signs of dominance i would advice to put one in another vivarium or remove the weeker gecko for feeding until its big enough to to stand up to the other one, however if they are both males then you will need another vivarium as they will fight.
Leopard geckos do not enjoy the company of other geckos contrary to popular belief. It often leads to dropped tails one gecko getting huge while one just wastes away and even death. SOMETIMES 2 females can cohabitate peacefully but yours are too young to sex and one is already showing dominance by not letting the other one eat.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com You should just let them eat until they stop geckos aren't known to overeat. At 3 months most of my leopard geckos can put away 10-15 mealworms at once. (I don't feed crickets as they annoy me).
Common beginner mistake. PLEASE seperate them now. As you see the ones already showing signs of being a dominate gecko. this can lead to one dieing. The one who ate 4 right away definatly will try to dominate the other one, i've seen it happen beforeD: Unless your willing hand feed them then you're gonna end up with fights. Plus babies you cant sex which means you could have 2 males which is a HUGE no no. Do put more in and try to get the other one to eat. DO NOT limit there food like people do. Limiting there food stunts there growth, they wont over eat.
EDIT EDIT: Reptiles dont like being in groups period. If they had the choice they'd choose alone just how they do in the wild. This Janet person is consering. So since mine are adults i shoudl only feed them 2-3 times a week huh? Well my adults eat every day to every other day. there big, there healthy ther enot obese there perfect and people are mistakening them for giants and super gaints. They eat things that are bigger then the space between ther eyes. infact they LOVE there super worms which are longer then that. they dont choke=-=only way to choke is if you give them something bigger then there mouth width wise.:/
Leopard geckos can be kept alone or together, and will not experience distress if kept by themselves. Groups can be a problem in the wrong combinations, however. Males often fight when housed together, and females sometimes do.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Sometimes, in a group cage, one gecko will grow larger and more quickly than the others, out competing them for food. If this is the case, the smaller cage mates will be undernourished.
Some leopard geckos are aggressive enough to need to live alone for the entirety of their lives. As these are not naturally social animals, the gecko will not be harmed by this kind of living situation.
** No food should be longer than half the width of your gecko's head, to prevent choking. Another rule that can help you choose the correct prey size is to make sure that prey is no larger than the distance between your gecko's eyes. Also, you should feed them five to seven times a week, using crickets or other insects appropriately sized for their mouths. (evenings after dark are best)
Once they reach adulthood, geckos can be fed anywhere from every other day to two or three times a week. The geckos should stay healthy looking and have fat tails.
When you feed a leopard gecko you have to feed it as much as they can eat in about 15 minutes and take the rest of the food out after that. Younger leos eat more often than older leos. Don't worry about how often to feed them, just keep them fed. never limit how much they eat.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com As of right now, the reason the other gecko ate only two is because the first one bullied it. Leos are solitary and territorial. It would be in their (and your) best interest to separate them. I once kept two female leos in a tank for a weekend and one got so stressed out it wouldn't eat for six monthes. I was lucky it had a fat tail!
anyways, as fun as it would be to have both your pets in one tank, it is very unsafe for them and could lead to bullying, or if they are a boy and girl to premature pregnancy.
