What do tortoises like to 'do' and eat?
I'm getting a tortoise soon! :D
but I'm not 100% on them yet, probably 99.9% ;)
do they like to play? dig? get played with? petted? do they like toys? etc.
and do they eat cabbage and just normal veg?
10 points to the person who gives me the best answer!
Me too!
I've been doing research on
http://russiantortoise.org/ that's the type I'm getting cause they're smaller but do your research on whatever breed your getting!
They do dig, climb and run around a fair bit. You can handle them and some enjoy their heads being stroked.
They are best fed on a weed diet with a calcium suuppliement.
I would advise you doing some good research before getting a tortoise as they aren't as simple as people think. Shelled warriors is a good forum for information and any questions you have. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

my freind has tortoises and she says that they eat well loads, most of the time they just sit around under the heat lamp and when they want food they just basically walk over and get it. they like, need food like, every week. it depends on what breed you have. some of them hibernate during the winter so they wont need that much food.
they need a nice comfortable place to live, dont put too much in their va varium, they want space to move around. they eat cabadge and raw vedge and you can hold them too. they dont bite or anything they dont like digging- btw, put newspaper in their tank or wateva, not sand because they arent used to it.
I've got a hermann and I gotta be honest it aint that playful. It tends to spends a lot of the day just hiding wherever it can. It always has a period of a few hours when it is most active in the afternoon and it just likes to munch on weeds and roses and wander around.

It doesn't like toys, it doesn't mind being stroked but doesn't really react. It certainly doesn't play. Having said that, there is something really lovable about it and my kids love watching it, it's very funny sometimes just yawning or trying to climb things (they like to try and escape)
Most tortoises are herbivores and will require a mixed herbvorous diet plus some vitamin and mineral supplements and fresh water.
The best tortoise for children is the mud or musk tortoise. They are very affectionate and have a pet and master relationship. They have commitment, integrity and sincerity. The red eared slider is also a good choice as it adapts easily to different climatic conditions. They are also used to live in captive environment and respond very graciously. They are very clean basically and do not harbor any disease and parasites.
Feeding your pet tortoise can be fun. Do not feed him only with commercial food. It should be supplemented with raw meat, fish, worms, insects and aquatic animals. Most tortoises are omnivores and eat a variety of tortoise foods. It is thrilling to watch your pet tortoise grow big and healthy. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
It is a very demanding job to have tortoise as your pet. Tortoises make a very rewarding and wonderfully exotic pet. When you take special care of them, they turn out good. If you love reptiles and want an easy to care pet, tortoise is the best pet for you.

Zucchini
Be careful not to feed your tortoise too much from the cabbage family such as broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts as these can affect the thyroid function and calcium absorption in tortoises. Dont eliminate them all together but just be sparing.
P.S iv never really seen a tortoise DO much but i gues you could say they like to sleep, eat, poop, and be let out to play (walk around) for a bit
Hope this helped :D

I'm going to be honest with you in as much as a lot of people find them "boring", (Ihave a reptile shop), but they are great little characters. No, they don't realy play with anything but they do get used to being handled and seem to quite enjoy having their chin tickled. They can dig very well so bear that in mind when you let it out in the garden. Obviously they need an appropriate enclosure, whether it's a vivarium, table top, shed etc., with a heat light that should be thermostatically controlled (depending on enclosure) and u.v. lighting. The right type of food is important, cabbage, although fairly high in calcium, also contains oxalates which stop calcium being absorbed in the body which then makes it not a good food. Get yourself the Tortoise Trust Feeding Manual, very informative and the most up to date research carried out on the calcium/phospherous levels in foods. It's heavy going, but very good. Basically don't feed any of the cabbage or bean family, no plain or ice berg lettuce. We use any of the continental lettuces, mixed packs, romaine or cos, then each week we'll use different things to add variety, for colour we use butternut squash, grated carrot, red and yellow peppers and in the summer various flowers and weeds, big leaf water cress, mustard cress are good too. We have a list taken from the manual that we provide in our shop when we sell out a tortoise, but the manual is only about £6.99 if I remember correctly, so well worth it.
