My snake has fluid coming from its mouth and is off his feed

My snake has fluid coming from its mouth and is off his feeding by two weeks?
I bought a costa rican black milk snake about a mounth and a half ago and up untill about two weeks ago he ate every wednesday, I told the owner of the pet store that I bought him from that he hadn't eaten this week but he said that it was normal for snakes to go off their feeding. I tried to feed him again and he still not eating and now he as musuc or some kind of fluid coming from his mouth. I try to keep my tank at the temp. required and I clean it out every week but I don't know whats going on because nothing like this ever happened with my ball python and I am very worried. Can someone please help me?

It could be a few things. The first one that comes to mind for me is a respiratory infection, but the fluid would be from the nostrils not the mouth. Maybe it could be mouth rot ... the best thing for you to do is to take him/her into a reptile vet to be examined and properly diagnosed. People can really only do so much over the internet.

If you do not have the money for a vet visit here is a site with very knowledgeable people:

www.repticzone.com

There are people there that keep many species of snakes and know quite a bit about diseases that affect them. Maybe you can take a picture of this fluid in/on the snakes mouth and post the picture there. I also advise you tell the temp. and humidity of the cage for them to better know what is going on.

Mucus coming from the mouth is NOT normal and is often a first sign of respiratory disease. Reptiles from pet stores frequently go through stressful shipping and handling, then are kept at sub-optimal temperatures and conditions. I would take him to your reptile vet as soon as possible ... this can be very serious.

This is just usual for many snakes, when they are adjusting to their new habitat (even though you bought it a month ago). They become in shock of the unfamiliar place. So you have nothing to worry about.
