Diamond python problem. he can not constrict and can only bend neck one way?
Ok here is the problem. I have a diamond who is about 6 years old, he was rehabilitated from the wild so i dont know his actual age. He has been doing fine for 4 years in a 4ft x 4ft glass/wood aquarium that is on a patio in natural sunlight & he has an infared on him at night.
after coming out of his cooling he has not eating, temps were right but one day the cage was really hot from the sun & the cover that is on half of it had blown off.
for a week he was flimsy, weak and was really soft feeling.
it has taken 3-4 weeks for him to seem better and to eat. at first I though he had diamond syndrome & was told by a specialist if he didnt eat in 2 weeks he most probably has a respitory desease or diamond syndrome which is a little unknown about, if so he would not eat & starve himself to death.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com He could only move the top half of his body properly & couldnt correct a twist in his body if it was half way. and would then end up on his side & in all messed up postions....
He has gotten much better at moving around, He has recently eaten 2 mice, frozen.
He used to have a mix & have live, so i threw a live baby mouse in there, thinking it would stimulate him. for 3 days it lived with him, he attempted to get it on the last day but i realised it had picked one of his scales off and was eating his flesh on the tip of his tail so i donged it on the head and he ate it.
anyway, when he strikes he only can tilt his head n neck to one side of his body and he cant strangel or contrict properly. Its hard to explain but he kind of strikes then twirls and curls up at different bends but none of his body actually wraps around the mouse.
I was just wondering if thsi could be broken ribs, and will they mend???? or if there are any advice or ideas you may have. any expertise would be great?

I live in a small rural town so seeing a vet isnt an option because the local one does not have a clue (tried that already) I would have to travel 3 hours to see a specialist & authanasia would be a more realistic option than that, as i dont know how old a speciman he is.
It may be old age?
help pls :)
answer: I hate to tell you this but it sounds like Diamond syndrome to me. There have been cases where Diamond pythons (M.s.spilota) have eaten and survived for a couple of months once exhibiting signs of this. It could also be IBD or the snake may have had a seizure. A visit to a specialist is probably your best option. I would caution against accepting medical advice from anyone on the internet.
it kinda sounds like muscle or tissue damage, and to be honest he might die from it. I had a snake that was acting like this to, but afterwards he got really stiff and died 2 days later. try to rub the messed up parts of his body to see if that will start to help, the body of snakes like pythons, boas, and other snakes that use the constricting method, are practically one big muscle so its not unheard of for them to develop muscle and tissue problems and damage easily, they also more easily develop diseases that cause damage like that. It is not a result of old age, because 6 years is not old considering as how most species of snakes, especially ones like anacondas, pythons, boas, cobras, sea snakes and so on, can live as old as most turtles and tortoises, (25-50) depending on how well you take care of them. Snakes like that, dont come cheap, nor are they as easy to get nowadays. I would honestly recommend you take it to a vet or specialist that could help you, even if it was 3 hours away, I dont know about you, but 8 hours out of my day is definitely worth a life, no matter if its a reptile, mammal or human. I mean, if your child or your family dog was really sick or had bad problems wouldn't you do the same for them.Just because its a snake and it cant express itself like a cat or dog can, doesn't mean its happy and not suffering, it could be in alot of pain right now for all anyone knows. And snakes are alot more delicate and can get alot more problems then something like a dog or cat can, they die from it easier too. So in all actuality you should have taken him to a specialist as soon as he was acting like that, waiting 3-4 weeks before even contacting your vet is ignorant.
