Why wont my red eared sliders eat their cuttlebone?
My red eared slider babies are about a few months old and they would eat their pellets and such but when it comes to cuttlebones, they smell it and run off. I even sometimes try to break it into smaller pieces but they still wont eat it ...
answer: Cuttle Bones Are Not Supposed To Be A Food Supply.
Cuttle Bones Are For Calcium And Cleaning There Mouth With,
You Should Snap A Piece Of Cuttle Bone In Half And Float It On The Top Of The Water Without Removing It.
Your Turtles Will Just Come And Have A Nibble At It When They Feel Like It,

Don't worry about it. Just provide a different source of calcium, such as bait fishes, small earthworms, or pieces of liver you have dusted in bone meal. These will also provide lots of protein and vitamins and are better than the pellets. Cheaper too.
sound like they don't like it ... or they've been eating other foods and are weary of new things leave it in there for a little longer :)
