Leopard gecko shedding questions?
i just got a 2 month old leopard gecko and its amazing i just got it 3 days ago and he already lets me pet him and hold him. the question is whats the youngest they start to shed and each time they shed does it mean they have grown out of their old skin??
answer: When they start to shed for the first time all depends on the gecko. But, yes, when they shed it means they have outgrown their old skin. You shouldn't find any of his skin in his enclosure because they eat it to recycle the nutrients. When you are holding him however , check his toes to make sure the skin came off of them. If there is any skin left on his toes, soak it in water for a few minutes then peel it off. If you don't get the skin off, his toes will lose circulation and have the possibility off falling off. You should know when he is about to shed because he will be kind of dull, then a few days later he will be bright again. Hope I helped!

They start shedding as soon as they start growing. So he has already shed before and will shed again as his body changes in size. Usually they stop eating a couple days before they start shedding and their skin starts to look darker or duller. Don't handle him during this time period until he is totally done shedding. If he has any dead/shed skin stuck on his toes you will have to help him get it off or it could cut off the circulation and he will lose the tips of his toes. Soak his foot in warm water if this happens, then use a q-tip drenched in the same water to try and roll the dead skin off. Never pull it off. And if it seems like you have to pull it off because it won't roll off no matter what you do, go VERY, very slowly. The first sign of any resistance, stop. Try soaking again the next day and using the q-tip. Keep in mind they shed when they lose weight too. Before my leopard gecko died she started losing weight and she shed over and over again. It was so sad. I had gotten a second gecko for a companion for her and he turned out to be sick, making her sick. Another thing to look out for. But in general leopard geckos are social and * need * a companion. So do get a 2nd one from a pet store with a good reputation to make sure your gecko is healthy and happy and not too lonely.

They ' ll shed soon after hatching. Shedding occurs with growth as well as a natural way to renew the old skin. We shed millions of tiny cells all day long so you can't tell. Reptiles shed in pieces or whole skins. You don't usually see leos shed as they quickly eat the entire shed skin. It is extremely important to have a moist hide at all times to assist with shedding, otherwise shed gets stuck on the toes and can cut off the blood supply. A simple plastic container with lid and a hole in the side works fine. Fold a papertowel inside and mist it with water daily to keep moist.
