What is a good pet for me?

I have had a dog and two rabbits before but don't have any pets at the moment.

My parents say i am not aloud another dog or cat because we are renting. They don't really want rabbits again either. What is a good pet that is pretty small that would fit in a tank or cadge and does not smell to much. i know its picky but its all my mum will let me .. thankyou
A pair of rats. They act like little dogs. You can teach them tricks and litter train them. You have to get two because they are very social and are naturally pack animals. Get them a cage and not a tank because tanks don't have proper ventilation. I would suggest getting them from a breeder and not a pet store because breeders have rats with better temperaments and less health problems. Baby rats from a breeder are usually $ 25, and adult rats are usually less, around $ 5. Adopting adult rats from a breeder is nice because they are calmer and usually already litter trained. Don't use cedar, pine, or carefresh for bedding. Aspen, fleece , paper shreds, or a paper based cat litter like Yesterday's News works well. Use one kind of litter for the cage, and a different kind for the litter box. You clean the cage at least once a week. Fresh water every day, veggies at least twice a week but every day is best. Sometimes fruits and other snacks. Males are calmer, females are more active. I have two male rats and I love them. One is 2 months old and the other is 4 months old.

You could also get a hamster or gerbils. They are also little furry critters that can live in a small cage. They require the same care as rats, but they aren't as friendly. They seem to tolerate people instead of enjoying them. You could also get lizards, but they require proper heat lamps and you would have to raise bugs. Or you could get fish, but they aren't too exciting.
Well, fish is one of the best alternatives. Little maintenance needed. Another, with a tiny more, and more cage regulation is mice or rats (they are actually very very good and nice cuddly creatures, we had some). Geckos/lizards/hermit crabs/other small amphibians and/or reptiles also take some maintenance , and at first cost a little more because most need heat laps, but not much is needed for food and not a lot of maintenance (you'll know when the tank needs to be cleaned because only then will it stink, well in my experiences anyway). The only other alternatives that I can think of are things that happen to be a little more costly like Chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, or other small rodents that are commonly found in stores like Pet-co or animal shelters. (I prefer animal shelters because then you help previously stray or abandoned animals find good homes)
I have your same living area and I too recommend mice or rats.

mice can grow to be the size of baby rats and they are affordable.

may take some space, but not too much. Make sure that when you choose the mice though that they are not too small or they could be really good escape artists.

They may smell a bit but its good if you have wood shavings, as it absorbs the urine.
I recommend a ferret, they are easy to take care of and most are de-scented when sold now. They fit in cages and are also fun to take out of the cage, they are small and don't take much room as well. Hope this helps (:
I'd recommend mice or rats.
