Sugar Glider Cage Cleaning?
Hi.
I'd like to know how frequent you need to clean Sugar Glider's cages'?
Im interested on getting some (2) and I'd like to know.. I've done research for months but I couldn't find anything about cleaning their cages. So, thank you[:
Sugar gliders don't make good pets
well when cleaning sugar glider cages and their accessories, you have to do a little cleaning almost every day. You can't clean everything at once, or they will go on a scenting spree. I usually empty their drop tray twice a week, wipe down the cage bars quickly with cage wipes every other day, wash their fleece accessories once a week, and toys and wheel and such once a week and scrub the cage down very well once a month. Stainless steel food bowls are cleaned every night. It really sounds more work than it is. It also depends on how many gliders you have in one cage with how often you have to clean. I have 2 cages with 3 gliders in each and 1 cage with 2, so each cage doesn't get very messy. If you have one cage with 4 or more it can get messier faster and that will involve more cleaning. Also the more often you clean it, the less work it takes to get it clean. Since I wipe down the bars every other day their isn't any food buildup or urine nastiness coating the bars making it hard to clean. What products you use can also make it easier on you. I buy a cage and toy protectant from sun coast gliders and it makes it so everything wipes off very easily. I also buy Kage Kleaner which you can buy from many online sugar glider stores and it really fights through the grime and cleans well. Plus these items are a lot safer to use for gliders than other household cleaning products. The cage wipes you can buy at petsmart or petco in the caged animal section or online at the sugar glider stores as well. They work really well for fast cleaning and have a fresh clean scent. Like i said, it may sound like a lot, but it really isnt. I have a very hectic schedule and it doesn't bother me at all.

If you keep up with regular cage cleaning (2-4) times a week than it really prevents having to do major clean ups...if you dont clean it for a week than the bars then it get pretty dirty as they get little bits of food all over them and its hard to scrub off once its dry. My gliders chew up and suck all the juice out of the fruits i feed them then they spit out all the little leftover pellets :)
