We are getting my female rabbit spayed this coming wednesday
my male bunny made it out of his neuter and is okay
and the doctor we took him too even said he wasnt comfy doing female rabbits
so
we are taking my female bunny to somewhere else that spays rabbits and im really scared
that something will go wrong and she will die
Because the risk is higher for female rabbits??
but if i dont spay her she will most likely develop cancer: (
Does anyone know anything to make me feel better about this?
Thanks
serious answer please
God bless
My female rabbit was not spayed (my male was neutered, and came through the operation fine), but while she didn't develop cancer, she was a grump! I have personally always been doubtful about the figures on uterine cancer since the study usually cited was one of meat/laboratory rabbits, and I have never actually seen a case of uterine cancer in a pet rabbit. However, I may very well have just been lucky in that (though not so lucky considering all the cases of malocclusion I have seen, how I wish there was a simple preventative measure you could take against that condition, it's utterly heartbreaking to treat). I loved her feisty personality, but being spayed may well have helped calm her down enough to live with my male instead of trying to beat him up. As it was, they had to live separately, I still have the scar on my wrist from intervening to stop her killing him, despite our very careful efforts to introduce them and the fact that the male was the sweetest natured creature I've ever known. If the vet has experience of successfully carrying out the operation on female rabbits she should hopefully be Ok (and it's good your normal vet was honest enough to say he wasn't comfortable to do the operation himself). The risk is much less than it used to be. Maybe if you prepare some things to help her through after the operation (if she's not usually an indoor rabbit, best to keep her in for a bit so you can keep a close eye on her, and make sure she stays warm) that will help take your mind off worrying, as you'll be focused on what you need to do to help her. The House Rabbit Society has some useful information:

I hope everything goes well.
I had two female rabbits and both of them were spayed. And I'm pretty sure both of them are still trotting around ny garden somewhere. You should just spay the rabbit, seriously ... You don't have to worry about it dying on the operating table. Just make sure you separate the rabbits on the first day or so after her operation.
i own a rabbit hacherey and never spayed any of my rabbits. and they never developed cancer, just make sure you keep there cage clean and clean off you rabbits every so often. But, if you still want to spay her, she will be fine, just talk to your vet, and make sure that she/he has alot of experience in spaying rabbits so you knwo for sure that nothing goes wrong hope you feal better
If the male bunny is neutered, why are you wasting money to spay the female?
The risk of anesthetizing any small animal is high.
1) Your doe will be FINE. Trust me.
2) My doe isn't spayed and neither is my buck castrated, and neither of them have developed health problems even though they live outside.
