Is paint harmful to rabbits?

I know there are different types of paint, are any of them harmful to rabbits? (Dry, not wet)

The rabbits like to chew, and some of the wood get hold of is painted, like the skirting boards for example, is it harmful to them?

If it's any use, I have two Giant French Lops, 1 Netherland Dwarf and 1 Lionhead.
First and foremost, lead based paint is harmful to all creatures. So if you know whether the paint is lead based, you have an immediate answer in that.

second, paint's made of chemicals, and that's not good for anyone. how sick it will make a creature depends on size, health, and amount ingested.

personally, it's best to put boxes or other items that won't matter if they chew on them and are clearly harmless, and be very watchful. not only do they chew, they will chew the most unexpected things. leave something in their pen that they can chew on. it will lessen the temptation to chew outside the pen ... but they'll still chew. never leave the room and be fully attentive towards them when they are loose. block off doorways and keep them in one room. cover electrical cords and anything you don't want chewed. see if they'll chew on Kong toys-those didn't exist when I had bunnies.

basically, don't let them chew painted or wallpapered/glued wood, but if they want to chew wood, pick up some scraps from the lumber store that are not pressed, plywood or processed-those have chemicals in them, and no treated woods , either, they have chemicals also. so strait wood. even branches from a tree, but some may not be ok, Google them and rabbits-or just google rabbits and chewing.
Hi there.

Yes, paint is generally harmful to rabbit and can be fatal because it is usually chemical-based. In solution to your problem, why not buy a rabbit-repellent spray? You can buy them from most pet shops. You simply spray it onto the areas you don't want your rabbits to chew - they work great!

I hope I helped.
If the paint is lead based it could be very harmful! Any paint is a bad idea but probably wont kill them. Though it may make them sick if they consume enough of it. I would do your best to prevent it. Petsmart or Petco has lots of safe chew toys.
Actually, many dwarf rabbits can thrive on the nutritious properties of orange, green, or blue paints. BE VERY CAREFUL to avoid giving them teal or turquoise. They are NOT the same as blue. I wish your rabbits many healthy days.
Many paints are toxic to animals. I believe Cuprinol Garden Shades say 'safe for animals' :-)
