I need a digging box for my ferret i want to put sand in it but im worried about his eyes getting disturbed.
If sand doesnt disturb his eyes, then which brand should i get that is ferret safe
Here is the list of things that i can put in my box if sand is no good
Potting Dirt
Leaves - stuff them in a plastic bag and put them in the freezer overnight to kill
any insects
Aquarium gravel
Long grain, slow cook rice - instant rice is very dangerous, as it can swell in the intestines and create a deadly blockage
Cornstarch Packing Peanuts - other packing peanuts are indigestible, meaning blockages, but cornstarch peanuts dissolve in water
Paper balls or shredded paper
And what are the ferret safe brands for the ones listed above
Sand is safe. You need to get chindrens play sand.
Diet needs to be plain dirt. No fertilizers ar anything added to it.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Leaves are fine if they are not wet or moldy.
Any brand of rice is fine as long as its long grain and non instant.
You can order cornstarch packing peanutes here.
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/pr ... You can also use ping pong balls.
Dr Foster & smith sells a dig box with the packing peanuts (safe ones of course!) But it does have a warning not to let them actually eat them. I've used shredded soy print news paper and they loved it. Dirt needs to be CLEAN plain potting soil. I wouldn't use sand. I just wouldn't mess with it. To be honest I'd stick with dirt or something like shredded paper. Mine love the news paper. I'd send it through the shredder, cut it up and put it in a big liquor box from the store. They had a blast, never ate the stuff, and I called the paper company to make sure it was non toxic soy ink. I'd never use leaves .. yuck! The packing peanuts are expensive at Dr. Fosters as is the box. You can also use blankets and pillow cases. I made them a burrow box and they made a nice little cave system in it. It was funny. They'd fall asleep in and Id have to dig them out. I still wouldn't use rice either. Mine would probably eat it .... Aquarium Gravel just sounds unpleasant. Be prepared if he isn't outside for a BIG mess. I had news paper all over my apartment all the time. The dirt will get EVERYWHERE!
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Try places like ferret.com, dr fosters, and stay away from petsmart or pet co they're expensive and don't have anything you can't get cheaper else where.
