How do I fit multiple rats into my lifestyle?

I really love rats. I had a single pet rat for a while, but he got a tumor and isn't with us anymore. I would really like to get another rat, but this time I would like to adopt two because it really does seem like the best thing for them, even though I love spending tons of time with them (4 + hours/day).

My problem is that I go to college far away from where I live, and travel home most breaks. I do not, however, have a car, and must therefore take the Greyhound bus, which does not approve of pets on the bus. My old, single rat would snooze in my jacket for the trip with no one the wiser, but I feel like two rats would get noticed. Does anyone have ideas on transporting 2 rats 500-odd miles (8 hour trip) a few times a year ?
The rats are more clean than the Greyhound Bus's usual clientle.

The Greyhound has ZERO security.

Plus the rat might catch something from that trip.
It wouldn't seem that fair to the rat to be traveling up and down. But if you really had to, the rats shouldn't get noticed but wouldn't you be violating rules??? and in result may be banned or fined.
Instead of making them fit in with your life style you really should be trying to fit into THEIR lifestyle. Just move down into the sewers.
If you do that much traveling and if ur in college it wouldnt be fair for the rat at all. it wont have any life ..
