Ive been researching breeding gerbils now for about 3months and have been looking around for breeders in my area .... however ....
THERE ARE NONE! D:
so i was thinking, what if i went to two different pet shops to get both the gerbils. thus being it reduses the inbreeding problem and if i apply what ive learnt about gerbil health then i can find out whether the gerbils are healthy or not.
oh and i am an animal managment student and have looked after gerbils for 4 year now so i have alot of experience and support behind me:)
I still wouldn't suggest it. You can never be sure where pet shops get their animals. They could be coming from the same place, and the same breeder gerbils. Not to mention that most pet shops get their rodents from breeding mills to start with ...
Have you tried placing a "Wanted" ad on Craigslist? Or have you checked the pet section in your area on Ebay classifieds (aka kijiji)?
I have rats. It wasn't looking hopeful that I would find a decent rat breeder where I live .. I put an ad on CL .. While I got some that were just feeder rat breeders .. I got a couple that were serious , and bred for color, dumbo ears, and temperment.
