I'm sick of fishkeeping, too expensive and boring.
I'm thinking about making some sort of rat/gerbil colony, but is there another, more interesting animal I can keep in there? Something that is cheap and doesn't need lots of supplies
thanks
You could get a few newts or salamanders. There are lots of options that vary in color and size. Some live on land, some live in water, and some like half water and half land. There are many interesting types you could consider. Bellow is a link to some care sheets for lots of newts and salamanders. They are a lot more interesting than fish!
something uber cheap and easy to take care of is a hermit crab. There 5-7 dollars each and they love big cages. Buy them at PETCO not Petsmart. There easy to take care of. Buy a bag of eco-earth ($ 5 - $ 8 for a 8 pound bag) Buy a sponge (any sponge works just cut a small piece off about 1 in. by 1 in.) and crab food ($ 2 - $ 3) and bottled water. Just refill their water and food every day and clean their cage every six months. DO NOT give them tap water chlorine kills them faster. in the winter put a heating pad (on the lowest setting) underneath the cage and try to keep them cool in the summer. But thats it and Like I said little to no effort. You could easily fit 5 to 10 in a tank that size (they like their space.)
Turtles, Snakes, crabs, lizards, salamanders ... that can survive in a tank
Hermit crabs definitely, they are super cheap, cute, fun, and especially cute. if you don't think their cute go f *** yourself. just kidding!
hermit crabs are great. If you can find a turtle, those are excellent too.
turtles, crabs, lobsters, geckos, frogs, liza ... spiders, etc .
A snake!
AXOLOTLS THEY ARE THE BEST !!!!!
