So I've been taking horse riding lessons with my neighbor. I've had lessons 5 times and the horse was alittle jumpy everytime, I've been on her. Today we got into a canter and she bucked me off and I fell on my back. I was terrified but I got back on her and walk the rest of the lesson. Should I quit? I've only rode her 5 times and shes already through me off. I'm a beginner rider, riding isn't really fun when your afraid the horse is going to act up. What should I do?
It's all part of the learning experience.
You get back on and keep taking those lessons. Sure your confidence is a bit shaken at the moment but with continued training and persistence you will end up looking back on this incident and wondering what all the fuss was about. Relax! Put the thought of falling way back in your head and enjoy yourself. If your muscles tense up due to nerves then the horse will feel it in the way you are seated, causing it to become more nervous and skittish and therefore more likely to 'act up'. If you act relaxed and confident the horse will feel it and be inclined to be a little more calm. Remember that the contact you have with the horse is two-way and that you are sending wordless involuntary messages to the horse the whole time you are seated on her.

The more training and experience you gain the easier you will find it to predict what she is about to do which will allow you to prepare yourself, by holding on and changing your balance to prevent a fall or eventually, hopefully, preventing her from misbehaving.
No-one learns to ride without having the odd tumble, and they do say you haven't actually learned how to ride correctly until you've fallen off half a dozen times.
If you feel like the horse is going to buck grab a hold of the main they will not feel it all you have to do is push down on their neck and hold on i have doe it many time on my horse she is some time a pain but it works if you do fall off stay down and crawl away as fast as you can. but another thing that can help is if you ride western you can hold the horn and the main both will help a lot
