Every chinchilla I've owned or come in contact with has always made some sort of noise when being patted. It's not always very loud, but it's definitely there. Mine used to be pretty quiet when he was relaxed and being patted, but his brother would get very vocal about it. I would expect that it's completely normal.
What you'll find is that over time you'll come to know what noises your chinchilla makes when they're happy, sad, injured, grumpy, etc., And that way you can always know what's going on with 'em. As long as they're not squealing or screaming (they can, especially if they get nightmares) they're usually just fine. Regards,
I agree with below user. Chinchillas will always make some sort of little noise for every different thing , just remember that chinchillas are very sensitive little creatures. They get scared very easily and are pron to heart attacks if startled bad enough, so go slow with them and keep things calming for your little one, and I bet they give you sweet squeaks all the time.
both the answers you have now are correct. chins make all kinds of noises ALL THE TIME. it can range from little squeaking noises to a blood curdling squak.like the one answer said, this is caused, I THINK , by nightmares. my one chin, jasper, will wake me up at night with some of the scariest noises i can think of. i have to go over to his cage and wake him up. i end up having to hold him for about 2 minutes before i feel he feels safe again. he does this about once a week and it freaks me out. i feel so sad for him. but he is my one chin that was aa true rescue. he came from a home that did not treat him well at all. when i first got him he was mean and was a biter. you could tell he was unhappy. now, almost 2 years later, he is my most friendly chin. he prefers the company of humans to other chins. but when they are out playing half the time they are just squeak squeak squeakin. i think its cute. so to answer youe question, yes its perfectly normal for a chin to make noises
