I have two petshop rescues i thought they were both females. They werent Nibbler would try to mount Lilly she will always keep him away so I had nothing to worry about. Lilly just came into heat and shes allowing him i tried to separate the cagebut they slipped though the wires because i have a c & c cage. Im worried because shes 4 months old. Also when i separated them they got really stressed out if i dont find a answer then ill have to nueter (im not a good speller) him but thats kinda risky its my last option. If you can help plz tell me.
You're either going to have to separate them or neuter the male. There's no way that you can get them to stop mating otherwise-it's hardwired into them.
EDIT: About the neutering, talk with your vet and ask his opinion on neutering guinea pigs. I do not know a lot about this, but I do know that it is quite common to neuter rabbits and completely safe. I have done this with all of my male rabbits and they have all turned out fine. Guinea pigs are smaller, but they still are pretty big in terms of rodents, so I do not think it will be as risky as you think. The surgery for males really isn't a big operation and they are not under sedation for long.
1) Get a second cage
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com 2) Spay the female. If a female guinea pig has does not have a litter before she is about 7 months old, her pelvic symphysis calcifies. For most guinea pigs, this means pregnancy becomes a life-threatening condition because they can't give birth without a c-section. Since you sensibly don't want to breed your pigs, if there's any chance she could be getting pregnant during her lifetime she should be spayed.
get her another female friend and put nibbler (if thats the male) in a different cage. It's natural for in the wild for them to breed so they will constantly breed. 4 months is actually the age i start to breed mineso she has them around 6 or 7 months and all came out with 4 babies so theres ntohing wrong with that but if you dont want them, don allow them, there could be a possibility thats shes already pregnant if she was allowing him.
seperate them and or get them spade or nuetered. srry thats the only way .
get diff cages and put 2 females in one and 2 males in 2
2 cages .... or neuter the male
two cages
seperate them
