I own an almost 4 month old rabbit that I got back in mid-August as a companion for my 3 year old male rabbit Snowy after my other rabbit died. She was just a baby when we introduced her to my older boy rabbit, but they got along and still get along just fine. When we first got her, she was a total sweetheart, but as she's gotten older she's kinda become a cotton-tailed terror some days. She's recently started humping Snowy. I did some research, and apparently it's because she's reaching sexual maturity, or she's trying to show that she's the boss ... I'm guessing the sexual maturity thing since she's close to that age. Our male rabbit is fixed, so no worries for baby bunnies.
Do you think there's a chance that she'll mellow out some if we get her fixed once she's old enough?
Ohh .... and I know that fixing a female also greatly reduces the risk of cancers that they can get.
Yes, definitely. She will calm down but it won't change her personality as some people seem to think. You should be able to get her spayed in a few weeks time if she is almost 4 months.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com And the health benefits make it worth it themselves. It doesn't reduce the risk of overy cancer, it prevents it completely. 80% of non-spayed females get ovary cancer when they are older so it's definitely worth it from a health perspective.
:)
Yes, female rabbits can show that kind of dominance if they are in season-they get moody.: (She might be about ready to be fixed now, it's best I believe to do it before she comes into heat because it will be hard to catch a time when she is not once she starts (you know the saying "breed like rabbits") and they can't be spayed while they are. I'm sure they will be great buds!
