Can cats kill your outdoor pet rabbit?

this year im deciding to buy i pet rabbit and i'll gonna keep it outdoors but theres lots of wild cats around my neighborhood please help i dont want my rabbit dead!
yes they can. having an outdoor rabbit is something i dont recommend. raccoons, cats, dogs, hawks, anything that eats a rabbit can kill it. if you live in a place that sees snow, the cold can kill it if you don't know what to do in the winter. rabbits that live outside can get disease easier and will most likely live a few years shorter. they are also lonelier without a rabbit friend (NEVER put 2 unneutered males together!) or you around all the time. if this is your first rabbit i'd recommend buying a few books and doing some research. rabbits actually require more care than dogs or cats and are very costly. plus it may not be legal if you have an outside rabbit and the cage smells and bothers neighbors. (you need to clean them often)

if you get a rabbit after all and have done your homework on them please adopt one. www.petfinder.com can help you find a new friend in your area. thousands of them are put down every year because too many are in shelters. shelter pets often come cheaper, litter/house trained, spayed/nuetered, and well behaved because they know how bad life can get because of past abuse. if you have any questions feel free to email me because i've rescued and studied rabbits for years .
Hi, pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Yes cats do kill outdoor/wild rabbits, BUT, if you get a secure hutch that is well secure then it will be fine, and get a hutch with a bedroom in it, that the rabbit can hide away in if he/she is scared . It is better to get a dog kennal, as they are made from fine wood which nothing can get into!

Good luck

humm. .. it highly depends. See my neighbors cats are great hunters, and my mom had several cats that are also great hunters, and she said that she has never seen a cat take on a full grown bunny (i own one and my kitty's are scared of him!: D he is extra large for his breed) so there are two peaces of advice i can give you ....

1) a GOOD cage, do not get some cheep thing that's falling apart. Its the best way to protect your bunny. If he cant get out and get into trouble, the cat cant get in to harm the bunny.

2) get a BIG bunny. Size may be inportant, and bigger bunny's tend to have stronger back legs, so i would say im more worried about MY bunny KILLING my cats then the other way around. Rabbits have wicked claws and VERY powerful hind legs . I dont think you have to much to worry about, but i would suggest taking your bunny into your house at night, because there are raccoons and such that can be more dangerous then a cat.

me and my mom have never seen a cat take on something bigger then a squirrel, and yes cats kill bunny's, but only very young/small ones.

hope this helps!; D

BTW i suggest a inside bunny, inside bunny's live a lot longer and will be less likely to catch something deadly or such, and if its the smell you are worried about go to your local pet-smart and buy this magic little thing ... its called bi-odor and you add some to your pets water and in less then a week the smell of there poop and pee are MUCH less, almost not noticeable. and the best part is its safe! the two drawbacks are one your pet may not like its taste (not a problem with my guinea pig) and its pretty expensive, but i think its worth it. also as another odor reducing remedy (which i have only read about, not tried myself, is Yucca leaves sprinkled in your pets food, not sure how it works but people give it good reviews.

Yes. Besides that, coyotes inhabit every state in the US and mostly all of Canada. Coyotes are becoming more & more common in urban areas (cities) and they do hunt and kill cats, rabbits and

even dogs. It isn't safe to have an outside pet.
just keep it in a cage if you don't it will dig a hole to live in and i don't think thats good protection against cats i have neighbors cats in my yard all the time too but my rabbit tell me when one is near by stomping her foot and making a sound
Cats are natural hunters, it will seek out your rabbit.

Make sure you have a perfectly secure cage, and when letting it exercise supervise it.

I have the same problem with my bunny.

Good luck.
Along with all the cats there are wild animals and people and weather and bug. Please house the rabbit inside and dont buy a rabbit. Please adopt. You can look on petfinder.cmo or at shelters and rescues.
