Can I move my Chinchilla and Hedgehog to a new country?

I am going to be moving to Ireland in 6 months and do not want to give away my chinchilla and hedgehog if I don't have to.

Can they survive in Ireland's climate?

are they legal?

How would I safely get them there? (I would want to keep them in coach with me but I don't know if that is legal) (<--- which plane company allows it?)
Ireland is NOT in the arctic circle you got your geography wong. It is an island next to England. You should call the Irish government to know for shore on there animal laws and what to do. Cargo holds get very cold and is not good for small animals. You will need to talk with the air line to get the info that you need for your animals to fly safely and comfortably.

Good luck in Ireland.
Lol ... where do you think Ireland is, in the arctic circle? They do have central heating in Ireland too you know! If you move to a house that is particularly cold then you might want to consider a heat mat for your hedgehog in winter, but that goes for a lot of places.

Yes they are legal there are absolutely no laws regarding what animals you can keep in Ireland ... if you wanted a kangaroo or a tiger, you could keep it there legally! (Not that I think this is a good thing, there has to be some limits, but that is the law).

However, I am pretty sure Ireland has the same quarantine laws as the UK. Where I'm from. It requires that animals spend months in a quarantine facility during which you will not be able to visit them ... I think your chinchilla may be exempt as rodents do tend to be but your hedgehog may not be exempt ... think of the stress this could cause your animal and think carefully if its best to bring him with you or find him another home. Quarantine facilities are stark and bare to prevent infections taking hold and he wont be handled or played with at all.

As for flying, you cannot fly animals in coach, they go in the cargo hold. Again this is something to consider seriously with long haul flights because there is no temperature control and it can get very hot or cold and your pet could end up dying as a result. The hold is not designed to fly pets its designed to fly luggage. It costs a fortune to do and there's usually a ton of paperwork to fill out. I'm not sure what airlines will fly, best to phone your airport and take it from there, they should be able to tell you how much it will cost, what paperwork you need to fill out and the details. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

I'm not sure I'd put a small animal like either of these through a long haul flight, it may just be too stressful for them.

Good luck with whatever you're doing in Ireland, I hope you have a job or college waiting for you because their economy is effed up and jobs are next to impossible to find at the mo.

ETA: Squirt, I never said Ireland was in the arctic circle, read what I said again. Ireland is an Island next to BRITAIN. Britain is made up of more than England. Given that I live in the UK and am half-Irish, I know my geography and what I'm talking about.
