My pony Connie is the calmest thing on the planet. Shes been in battle reanactments with muskets, and takes little kids around the ring who dont even know how to ride. She is 13 years old, and current for all her shots. She has been sleeping outside with a blanket on, with the same horses she has been in with for 3 years. Tonight she was runing away from me, terrified, and snorted and shying away from completely average things like hay and buckets. I brought her in, thinking she might just be over tired. Any other ideas?
did she see a snake or a mouse because a lot of animals are afraid of them, maybe she got bit by a bug or snake.
It's possible that something is wrong with your pony's eyesight. I would have a vet check done right away. It is also possible that something did spook her and because she doesn't normally do this she actually over reacted to everything. She expected a boogieman to jump out of anywhere . A horse may seem bomb proof but in reality they are not. They see differently than we do and each side of their brain works independently of the other. Because of that, horses may suddenly spook at something they have never spooked at before, especially when in a different place or situation. Like maybe it was dark and you had a hood or hat on your head.
I agree with Cigi, get her eyes checked. I saw this same thing happen with an older horse at my barn - he was a hunting/camping horse that retired to give lessons. He was used to gunshots and children, he was used for the special olympics ... Nothing could bother this horse.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com In his last year though, he was increasingly nervous. He would shy away from food buckets and other things in the barn. His eyes were going, and he was eventually put down (not only because of his eyes).
