We know about albinism in humans and how it causes them to be prone to sunburn as well as vision problems.
What about albino rabbits?
They dont seem to be burnt going out in the sun.
I'm trying to do some studies between the human and animal, you see.
Just like humans, albino animals lack color pigment in their skin, hair, and eyes. Albino rabbits generally still have fur to protect their skin, however their eyes are still vulnerable to damage from the sun.
Albino rabbits have fur all over their bodies, unlike an albino human, so no sunburn.
Albino rabbits and rabbits carrying an albino gene can have a trait called "scanning", where they weave their head slowly from side to side, almost as if in a trance or having a seizure. It's thought to be related to the albino gene and poorer vision and that the rabbit is trying to focus. I've seen it in several rabbits I've owned.
albino rabbits are not like albino humans. they are just like any other rabbit and are perfectly normal. i raise Californian and Himalayan rabbits which are both albino breeds and i haven't ever had any issues that were out of the ordinary with them.
