Is shredded newspaper safe for a chinchillas bedding?
Yes! most definatly when i had a chinchilla that is what i used and nothing was wrong with it and its a good way to safe money!
They'll most likely eat it-would you want to eatt newspaper?! No way! It's unhealthy, not very clean and absorbment, and will need to be cleaned so often, it's ridiculous.
1st, my chin liked peeing in a little box-a glass casserole dish on the very bottom of the cage in the corner they most prefer, lined with kiln-dried pine or aspen shavings, or even better fleece. It's worth a try-my guy used it immediatly, got used to it, and I could put it anywhere after the first week and he'd go to that to pee.
2nd, kiln dried pine or aspen shavings (always kiln-dried) are good but messy. The most popular is fleece lining. You make aa few, they're reusable and cheap, pretty, and so easy to clean. You cut out 2 peices of fleece and sew it like a piillow case, turning it inside out (don't need to be a good sewer to do-I'm not aand I did it, lol), then stick some thick towels inside where they can't get the towel or the thread (choking not good). Then sew the last edge and hide it good where they can't get it, or don't sew it, but still hide the opening veryy well so they can''t get to the towel.

Don't use newspapers. The one person said her friend had them for a few years, but what does that mean? Chins should live at least 16 if other health issues don't pop up, so if they meant a full life, I'd use words like 'a lot' or 'a long time'. Not a few. A few is 3 or more-not good enough. Trust me on this and don't use newspaper.

http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/sh…Don't use newspaper-try fleece. Check out the ferret nation club in the housing section on there and you will be amazed how nutty they get with fleece. They can't get hurt by ingesting it-its so safe, they make shelves out of it, bedding, houses,, etc. They sell some in the for sales section, lol.
thts wat my friends use and they've had their chinchillas for a few years and they are perfectly healthy
