Are guinea pigs good pets?
I think i want to get a guinea pig! I'm 18 and when i was a little kid I had hamsters and rats as pets and loved them! However those only lived a couple years, i know guinea pgis live longer, and i've never had one so i think it'd be cool to get one. Are they good pets? what are they like? Would i be able to hold it? Can i get one or is it better for the pig to get two?

Thanks! :D
I had them when I was younger and the best comparison I can make is its like owning a furry baked potato. They are really really dumb and quite boring and I love animals. I would stick with the rats, they are more fun.
I don't think so.
I haven't had one but I have friends who have. They are fabulous pets. They are loving, adorable and very funny and cute. Go for it!
I've never owned a guinea pig, but I've really enjoyed the pigs I've met. They're extremely entertaining and have a lot of personality. However the need a lot more room than smaller rodents, and their food requirements are a bit more complicated. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Most people who one guinea pigs really enjoy the experience, and they're much more fond of being handled than small rodents. Tamed guinea pigs are very happy to be picked up and to sit in laps while being petted. Guinea pigs are highly social, and you need to get two at the minimum. One guinea pig won't be happy no matter how much attention you give it.
get a dragon instead they seem to be more fun... although they do require a massive amount of power crystals for breakfast...
I think they are great pets and they do need to be in pairs. Do lots of research before getting guinea pigs. Here are some great websites

Please adopt. Its cheaper and you will be saving guinea pigs. You can look on petfinder.com and at shelters and rescues.
YES guinea pigs are so fun and cute. Just don't put two of them in one cage. My guinea pigs ate the other guinea pigs in the same cage
My brother had a guinea pig, and I loved her. I used to hand feed her, she never bit and had the sweetest personality. They are really interesting, and make the cutest noises, one of which is almost like a purr which they make sometimes when you pet them. They do have special dietary requirements requiring supplements, their cages must be cleaned and bedding replaced regularly and may need their nails trimmed regularly. All in all though, they make great pets if you are willing to put in the work. Like any pet, you should make sure that they are the right fit for you and your home and lifestyle before adopting.
