I want to know what you think.

What I think of Pet Stores:
Every time I go to a PetStore (just for a look) I see a dead animal, I go to the person working there and tell them. They either ignore me or pretend to take it out I come back 2-3 minutes later, it's still there. They support BYB's and puppy mills. They give the non-bought animals to shelters or drop them on the street.

What I think of BYB's:
First of all get your pet fixed! Some people don't mean to be one but end up being one because they think they are helping out. I know this is harsh but I'm really sick of people abusing the wellfare of animals.

I don't mind pet stores that much. I work for one. Stores that do bother me generally have animals in horrible conditions, tank too small, sick animals, lie about care or don't know care, pretend animals are fine when they are clearly not, etc... I hate bybs. The more that are shut down the better.

Please do not buy animals at pet stores, they are usually from puppy mills. Of course you could be rescuing an animal and that is always a good thing. I have always had great luck going to animal shelters or rescue orginizations or adopting strays. The love you get back is worth any vet costs!

I don't really have a problem with pet stores, although I'd never buy a puppy from one, however I've gotten both gerbils and parakeets from pet stores, and they were perfectly good animals who lived out their full life expectancies. I've never seen a dead animal in a pet store, ever. I think you might just have a really bad pet store.

I just went to petsmart today actually, and they didn't have any dogs for sale what so ever, and the cats they had were all shelter cats and kittens. Each cat had the story of the how the animal got to the shelter, and the the shelter's number with vaccination and spaying/neutering notices. I really think a lot pet stores are starting to get their act together and only sell smaller animals and work with shelters a lot.

I actually don't know how people find dogs anymore though. I've been spending a lot of time in shelters the past few weeks looking at cats, and I've only seen maybe ten different dogs in four different shelters, and they were all several years old.

As far as BYB, yes I completely agree. Getting your pet fixed is best for the pet, best for the family, and best for the community.

I hate them. Pet stores get their animals from mills and most pet stores don't take proper care of their animals and even if they do the animal are still from mills and are usually sick, pregnant, mis sexed or have parasites. I don't even buy stuff from pet stores that sell animals. I don't want to support what they do. The animals are not the money makers all the supplies the animals need are. I have not been to a petno or petdumb in about a year and I will never shop at one. I shop online, at feed stores and at this awesome pet supply store called chuck and dons pet food outlet. Its cheaper anyway. Pet stores have over priced things. Why I hate BYBs is obvious. They do it for money and dont care about the animals. I have never bought from a BYB. I adopt all of my pets.
