Ferret Budget&&Money?
Im looking to get ferrets(: (unless i can find a ferret that doesn't get along with others, then I will be getting one.)
I've done the research, so don't be all, "well you need to research."
Plus I'm ordering Ferrets for Dummies just because it's so reccommended.
I want to get the Ferret nation, which on ferret.com is 200$.
Then I need some toys and I will be using fleece. Im trying to make a deal with May, from SmallPetChannel to make me some cage liners :D
This all will happen once I have the money.
But I need to know how much to save,
I need to save for emergency vet visits, cage, toys, liners, the ferrets themselves o_o, and food for a couple months.
How much do you recommend I save up?
answer: If you just save up $300 for a vet bill you can look on craigslist and kijiji. I have seen a pair of ferrets, a double unit ferret nation and all the supplies you would need for $100. So you may only need $400. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
You can also look on craigslist and kijiji just for ferrets. I have adopted a ferret off kijiji for $25. From shelters they are $50. So if you adopt they are a lot cheaper.
I have seen double unit ferret nations for $75 on craigslist.
So look around craigslist and kijiji. You will be able to find everything on those website for cheap.
The ferrets themselves will be between $100-200 each. (Typically around $120 at pet stores, and a little more pricey from a breeder) A ferret from a shelter, or an older ferret might cost as low as $70.
Emergency vet visit: From what i've read, each ferret is expected to need a $500 svet bill in its lifetime, so at LEAST $500 each. You will need money for the initial rabies and canine distemper vaccinations, as well as to have them desexed.
Cages run between $200-300. Accessories like food dishes, water bottles, litter box/litter, etc. should be included (but varies on the number of ferrets your getting). Food is roughly $10 a bag. Home Depot sells wood stove pellets for $5, (for 40 pounds) and you can use it as litter. Then add the cost of fleece blankets and hammocks/hideouts for your ferrets. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
You can spend easily over $50-100 on toys. Even just for one ferret. They need a lot of toys. But you could also make home made toys, which are just as great :)
You might also want to look into getting:
a travel carrier (for vet visits)
Odour remover
Cage cleaner
Shampoo
Ear cleaner
I plan on owning 3 ferrets in about a year, and through my own research I've decided to have at least $2800.
Expensive, but so cute :) Good luck!
Source(s):
done a fair bit of research on ferrets
The cage is £200, Annual Vaccines for 2 ferrets about £80, Toys £20, Liners around £25, Ferrets (depends where you get them) about £30, food for a couple of months £30? also extras such as shampoo, nail clippers, ferretone etc can cost up to £20 altogether. these are rough costs and can change greatly depending on where you get them - toys could be £60 they could be £10. But you can save money by using old fabrics and blankets from charity shops or home and ferret toys are easy and cheap to make.

Have a look here for a few ideas:

Hope this helps :) and good luck!
