Am I a pushover for letting my pets on my couch?
I've always let the pets on the furniture (tables not included!). Before we just had cats.. and now we have dogs too. I let them sleep on the couch and hang out whenever they want. I have blankets down to limit the stink and hair (they're leather though so hair isn't much of an issue). Some people like my non-pet owning sister think I shouldn't allow them on the couch. I honestly don't mind. I enjoy snuggling with them and knowing they're comfy. They have designated beds and don't sleep in our bed but during the day the couches are fair game. I think - it's my house, my pets, my rules.. right?

Totally! we have 3 dogs and they're all allowed on the couch. It doesn't make them disobedient or anything. I love cuddling with my dogs so we have always let them on the couch. :)
Yup, the only thing that would be a problem is if they are bratty about wanting to be on the furniture when you have guests. I would not necessarily want dog hair and slobber on my clothes when visiting my friends and my dogs are confined to their kennels when I have company. They don't get on the couch because I don't have one but the cats are very pushy about the chairs sometimes.
It's alright letting the dogs go on beds, couches, or other furniture. It's up to you and what you're okay with. Just know the risks of fleas and ticks spreading to your furniture. Also, it depends on how the dog treats the furniture. If he bites or scratches, then obviously, it'd be best for them to stay off. But it's really your choice.
Nope. I let my pets go wherever they want. My cats are even allowed to be on the table and counters. I offer them their own beds but if they would rather sleep on the couch or a people bed then I let them. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

And fleas and ticks could still easily get on a couch even if you dont let the dog or cat on the couch.
Not at all. I like to think of my self as a fairly nice and neat person and I allow my dogs to sit and hang out with me on the couch, and let them sleep with me too. Dogs are very passionate animals and love to hang out with their owners. I kinda feel bad when I dont allow them to be on the furniture...I would just tell your sister don't get a dog then=)
Ur totally right ur pets ur rules anyways my dog sleeps wherever he wants and is aloud on the couches and beds same as my cats. My dog even has his own bed like a matress on the floor and he sleeps on our beds too so ya I don't think u r a pushover it's perfectly fine if u let ur pets on the furniture
personally my dog is part of my family... i wouldnt expect my family to sit on the floor so i dont expect that for my dog.. besides if you have blankets down, what are washing machines for?!
as long as they behave on the furniture (no digging, clawing, etc) then it's fine. i love snuggling up with my pup on the couch =]
Its fine as long as they now when you want them off and when its okay to be on.
It doesn't matter at all. than again my dog doesn't shed and I hate peoples houses where you can see the millions of hairs.
You can do whatever you want I'm sure it doesn't make you a pushover but..it's gross.
I think they should stick to their own beds.
heck no my animals are allowed on our couch just shows you love them! there is nothing wrong with that lol. our couch stays clean so its no biggy deal lol
my dog is allowed on the furniture. shes a shih tzu, so shes a so called non-shedder so theres little to no hair...the only time she isnt allowed up there is when shes wet and she knows it....i saw a sign somewhere that explains it perfectly and i want one for the house but i cant remember exactly how it went offhand.... ill come back and post it if i remember it :-)

TO NON-PET OWNERS who visit our homes. Don't complain about our pets. (1) They live here, you don't. (2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they call it 'Fur'-niture. (3) I love my animals more than I like most people. (4) To you, they are animals. To me, they are hairy family members who love me unconditionally.
