They need to be in pairs. Guinea pigs are herd animals and will get depressed and lonely if not in pairs.

Safe bedding you can use are aspen, kiln dried pine, carefresh and fleece. I have fleece and I love it and so do the pigs. You need an absorbent layer under the fleece like puppy pads, towels or a mattress pad. You also need to wash the fleece 2 times before using it so it will whick pee to the absorbent layer. Do not use fabric softener on fleece or it will not whick pee.

They need a hidey house. Here are some toys they like.

Dont let it get lost in the house. Its hard for them to escape so I wouldn't worry about it.

They need unlimited grass hay like timothy, oat, orchard or bluegrass. They need at least 2 cups of veggies every day. Here's a veggies chart.

http ://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/diet ...

They need a high quality pellet like oxbow, sweet meadow, mazuri 5664 or kleenmamas (only online http://www.kmshayloft. com/) If they are under 6 months they need an alfalfa based pellet. If they are over 6 months they need a timothy based pellet.

They can die if housed outside. It could get too hot or too cold, they could be eaten by a predator and they are more likely to get sick. They could eat something they are not supposed to. If you scroll down that veggies chart link there is a list of poisinous things. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Never use wheels or exercise balls. They can injure a guinea pigs nack and feet.

Never use vitamin drops in their water. Vitamin c breaks down very quickly in water so its useless and the drops will make the water taste bad so he will drink less. They get all the vitamin c they need from their pellets and veggies.

Never house them in a tank/aquarium. They have poor ventilation which can make guinea pigs sick and they are too small.
You should get a glass cage, or metal they can chew through plastic ones. Guinea pigs need vitamin C. You can get drops or SEEDLESS oranges. They enjoy alfalfa hay. If it gets lost in the house, leave the cage open and easy to get back to. Usually they 'squeal' or 'squeak' when frightened, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. Males tend to 'spray'. Line the bed with soft bedding made of paper or cotton, they have sensitive feet. They need plenty of things to chew, and you should find specific things at your local pet shop.
