Donkeys can make very good pets. They can be trained to ride, but generally they are very very stubborn. It also depends on what size donkey you are looking for. Some of them don't get to be very big, but some of them can get as tall as ponies. They are generally very friendly if they've been raised right, and will come up to you looking for carrots and treats. People also keep them as flock guardians for sheep as they will attack strange dogs and coyotes.
