i wanna pet that can fit in my pocket, take everywere i go, doesnt $ hit alot, and is freindly.like a little buddy type thing. 40 dollar limit and doesnt need special food or tempature. any ideas? (no fish)
You should get a sugar glider (if their allowed in your country)
OR
a tamagotchi:)
well, in all honesty any * pet you get will require a certain temp, or certain food because each animal requires certain nutrition .. sugar gliders are good pets, and some can be found cheap, they wont use the bathroom where they sleep. the food is very inexpensive. bunnys are great pets, but can get big and wont fit in your pocket, maybe a dwarf hamster, or bear hamster.
tamagotchi sounds like your ideal pet. Nothing that would be able to fit in your pocket would be suitable to put in your pocket and carry around with you, it's not exactly great for the animal and they all go to the toilet a lot, especially the smaller ones because you can't train them. Rats are brilliant pets and can be tamed and trained easily but they do need a lot of attention and care as they're very social animals and often need company and a long list of varied toys to keep them active and happy.

Stick with something that isn't actually alive for now, they're easy to take care of, you can take them anywhere, they do have personalities to a point and you don't run the risk of animal cruelty if you get bored etc
id go with a fancy rat. they cost about $ 10 at petsmart. You can shoulder train a rat, so why not pocket train them too.
you would have to pay for a cage, bedding, and food as well, but im not sure if the $ 40 limit applies to everything or just the pet. but if its everything, then you'll end up paying more.
another option would be a hamster or gerbil. they poo a lot, but its tiny and dries in like 3seconds. they would probably be harder to train too, but it is possible.
hamsters are $ 16 and gerbils are $ 12 at petsmart.
you can buy a cage from $ 20 - $ 30.
petsmart also has a "starter kit" available for $ 34 which includes bedding, food, chews, and treats along with the cage. petco has one for $ 30, but it doesn't include the chews. so these would be the better deal, and you would still be very close to your budget.

if they sound good to you, make sure you do a little research to see what are things you need to know when it comes to them.
*** If you decide to buy wood bedding remember to buy aspen NOT pine, and ESPECIALLY NOT cedar. These contain aromas that are bad for them. Rat included .***
Sorry. Won't happen.
The only pet that comes to mind that will fit in your $ 40 limit is a hamster. And I don't suggest taking it whereever you go. It could get easily hurt or lost. It will need a cage, food, water bottle, bedding , and some sort of toy (like a wheel) and chews. This will actually probably run you more than $ 40, depending on the cage you get.
But for your information ... ALL pets require special care. They MUST be researched, so you know what that said care is. They all require to be kept in certain temps, most need special food. Even hamsters.
Someone said rats are great pets. They are. They are incredibly friendly and intelligent. Best pets I've ever had .. And I've had lots of pets. BUT, they need large cages, must be kept in pairs or groups, need special food/diet, ect.

But so will a hamster.
As a couple others suggested .. You are best off with a non-living pet like a tamagotchi or a pet rock. When you are ready to accept that all animals need special care, and are willing to do the research to find out what. . THEN you are ready for a real pet.
I would say a ferret. I love them because they are like cats and dogs. They are like dogs because they are very playful. they love to retrieve things and they love to hide and they steal things. they are like cats because you can pet them, hold them and sleep with them. trust me they are the best pet. i hope i helped!
If you don't mind the smell, ferrets are nice , but not that clean either. you are pretty much stuck with small rodents, or perhaps a bird, although they can be very expensive. I think you are after the perfect pet which doesn't exist.
Well you can get a mouse, hamster or a gerbil for under 10 dollars, they fit in pockets, don't advise that tho.
guinea pig definitely. they are the best. i have 2 and they keep me company everyday. they are very cute. if u get them at petsmart they are under $ 40.
gp to the park chose a rock that looks pretty paint a face on it if you chose and name it
