I know mini lops and Holland lops were first created, because of cross breeding between netherland dwarfs and English lops, but has anyone ever tried to keep the English lop characteristics in minature form? (IE The exceptionally long ears and Mandolin shaped body).
They have indeed. There is a breed that is currently undergoing the recognition process in the US called the Velveteen Lop. They have a rex coat and a body weight of under 6 lbs with the mandolin body and long ears of and English Lop. They have had their ups and downs in the standardization process having failed their first try at their final showing in the acceptance process. With a little luck, they will pass on their second (and final) try this month at the ARBA convention in Minnesota and be a recognized breed in January.
yes you have to be very carful breeding them because since they are miniatures they sometimes dont come out breating.
