My dog is pretty low maintenance, but when it comes to attention, she's very needy. I've done my research on SG's (youtube videos of ASGV [association sugar glider vets) and I know they require loving. My dog growls a few seconds after you stop petting her, and I find that extremely irritating. My dog also bites HARD, and I know sugar gliders bite too, but don't all pets?
Anyway, I'm 11, so I know not to hurt to little girl (yes. .. I would get a female). I go to school for 9 hours (hour in the morning to get ready, and my mom works at the school so about an extra hour there including the car ride home), so would that be okay to leave them in their cage? As much as I would love to have them in my pocket during school, I'm not sure it would be okay because of possible accidents (according to the YT videos they go about every 2-3 hours w/o being fed.)
I really do want one of these pets because I need someone to bond with since I live far away from most of my friends (20 miles .... neighborhood girls are bitches).
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com So tell me, according to what I told you, would a sugar glider be okay for me? My only concern really is that I won't be there to give it attention from 7-4 o'clock.
Unfortunately the ASGV is one of those organizations that looks creditable, but really isn't (in my own opinion). There is some question over rather or not the organization actually exists .. Keep in mind that anyone can put videos online. And anyone can make a website claiming to be an organization. You should also know that youtube is not a valid source for research. Anyone can put a white coat on and say that they're a vet on that site.
Moving on ...
If you have issues with your dog biting and growling, you might want to consider training her. Obedience schools/classes for dogs are wonderful things.
And yes, sugar gliders can bite, too. In fact, they can bite hard enough that they go straight to the bone - which can cause infections. I know someone who had to go to the hospital after his sugar glider bit him. BUT sugar gliders usually don't bite after they've gotten used to/bonded with you. (But, bonding is NOT guaranteed).

- You should not get just one sugar glider. They are colony creatures. They need to be kept in pairs. So, you would need to get two (at least).
- I wouldn't recommend that you bring the sugar gliders to school with you. They make odd sounds. One of mine barks in his sleep from time to time, and they both making grooming sounds throughout the day. Also, knowing how loud schools can be, all of that noise may stress them out.
- They don't typically need to eat in the day time. They are nocturnal.
- I do not recommend them for eleven year olds. Here's why: They're nocturnal. Mine are up before 8pm, but a friend of mine has gliders that don't wake up till around midnight. How would your parents feel about you staying up past midnight to play with them? Also, they are expensive, requiring specialized diets, large cages, lots of toys, pouches, cage sets, and exotic vet care - who is going to pay for all of this? Start up costs are typically $ 1000 + ... in this economy, your parents might have an issue with buying you all of this. And, finally, they have a long lifespan - they can live for 15 years. I know that sounds like a good thing (and it is, for those who can make the commitment), but at 11, you can't possibly make a commitment for 15 years.

I am a old man who has had many different kinds of pets for many years and from my experiences with sugar gliders, I would hesitate to recommend them to anyone. The experiences I had with them proved to me they are a naturally wild creature that cannot be tamed! I have had squirrels of different breeds including flying squirrels, monkeys, opossums, raccoons, Javelins, (Wild pigs) and one lynx.
You should train your dog before you consider bringing any new animals home ...
Your dog growls when you aren't giving her attention? She bites you really hard?
I would not accept that from any of my dogs.
I agree with what SugaFert said about sugar gliders, I don't think it would be the best descision to get any.
As long as you're dedicated to giving her love and attention when you can, it's all up to you wanting to take the responsibility.:)
Sugar Gliders aren't pets ...
Firstly, ASGV is NOT a good source of information regarding sugar gliders. They are a false association formed by "Pocket Pets" who is a mill breeder that exists only to sell sugar gliders. They do NOT care about sugar glider welfare and dispense the wrong information on a regular basis. DO not listen to ANYTHING ASGV or Pocket Pets have to say! Here's what some people on a suggie forum have to say about Pocket Pets and ASGV:
