I also have a pet rock, people think they are easy too look after but they require a lot of care!
First off have you been to your local pet shop to get "Rock and Pebble Vitamins"? They help to prevent diseases, so that would be a good start!
Most pet shops carry a product called "Rock Repair" or something similar, this is a spray that you can spray on you Pet rock which has a healing mineral for every known disease for Pet Rocks, I always have two bottles, You spray him or her 3 times a dayuntil he or she looks better.
Some warning signs-If he/she is looking off colour
If he/she isnt moving very often
if he/she isnt eating
if he/she isnt drinking
But remember, if it is a she and she looks as if she is moving less or being lazy, but she is drinking more water than usual then Congratulations-Your pet rock is pregnant!

Another product you can buy at the pet shop is Nutrient drops to put in the water, to keep your pet rock even healthier and more active!

Hardatius - When your poor rock can have to much presume on its rock vertebrae back and will break.
Greycolouriotus-When your rock gets left in the rain to long and it turns a horrible grey colour
Mossiotus-When your rock is left in a cold, dark place by itself and turns green and furry because its so scared.
