I brought two male pet rats around three month ago, they were really friendly, I think they were around four months old.
I have played with them every day and they were always wanting to come out of the cage and play, suddenly last month that all changed they started flying at anything that went near the cage and biting at it, I can't get them out anymore it's that bad and have to sear gardening gloves to feed them or clean them out, they are suddenly like wild rats.
Nothing has changed in their environment, nothing unusual has occurred they just suddenly changed.
The vet says they are healthy.
Can anyone explain why they hbe become so nasty and suggest how to tame them again???
Any help/info/advice massively appreciated thanks
ellie
Sometimes this happens. And sometimes its due to one overly aggressive male.
I'm sorry your experience with rats has to be like this. I've had my two males for 8 months, got them at 3 months, and they have always been perfect pets. Best ever, really.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com But every once in awhile someone will get an overly aggressive male. The reccomended thing to do: Have one, or both, neutered. It takes away their testosterone, which is the main hormone that drives their aggressive behavior.
Continueing to attempt to talk to them and handle them daily (gloves or no), can only help.
