What is a cheap cage pet to keep?

I really want a cage pet, whether it be fish, rodents, reptile, whatever, and I have a decent space for a cage. I was just wondering what type of pet I should get that is cheap considering upkeep and initial cost (can maybe get cages free). Please include how much you think it would cost to start and maintain.
Hey!

Congratulations on wanting a pet!

I have just the pet for you.

A Pet Rock!

If you have enough imagination then its the pet for you, it doesnt need food or water, and can be in any cage size you want (but be fair, it needs room to walk around etc.)

They come in all different shapes and sizes, and wont poo all over your computer!

They are quite unique and super super cheap!

Infact, they wont even cost you over $ 10 for the pet itself, the cage and an instruction manual!

I really, really hope you consider a pet rock, they are awesome. Email me for more information.

Regards,

Daniel
You should definatly get some sort of reptile!! Like a newt or something. I have 2 newts and they are so low maintenance I forget I have them sometimes. All you need is an aquarium .. at least 5 gallons which isn't big at all but newts don't really mind .. you could get them 10 gallons and it would probably be easier to decorate. Just slope the gravel up one half of the tank and then put a piece of driftwood or a large rock on the side with the most gravel. Then put water in the tank so that the tank is half land and half water. You can suction some plants to the back of the tank too .. newts like to hide. Mine eat frozen bloodworms and SMALL mealworms like every 2-3 days depending on how hungry they are. You can keep just one, but they do like company .. mine are bestfriends!! They even put their arms around each other, its cute haha. They don't need a heater either .. that stresses them out. I wouldn't put anything else in with them .. unless you researched it before hand but usually either the newt will get eaten or the newt will eat it. And in my case, they secrete a poisonous toxin to warn off predators .. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Newts are under 10.00 depending on the type you get. Mine are fire belly newts (very common) and they are 6.99 here in canada.

The frozen bloodworms and mealworms total to under 10.00 too and I need to get them like every 2 weeks ... very inexpensive!!

you can find an aquarium for really cheap on www.kijiji.ca

unless you live in the states .. then go to another community selling site.
Birds definitely!

Cockatiels especially, they don't cost that much and they dont need much. You have to change food and water daily and that's all:)
I'd say a hamster or fish. Research first
