Registered breeders breed select dogs to improve the breed right? So why do people still buy puppies from BYBs? They breed the same dogs over and over again. They are not improving the breed whatsoever. So ... My question is why do they make so much money? Also, why are people always blaming breeders for overpopulation. It is the irresponsible dog owners of all kinds of dogs that abandon their dogs. Now we all have strong feelings about this subject. I am for educating the public on shelter dogs but we have to have a line drawn. Why yell and WRITE IN ALL CAPS telling people to adopt. Where do you stand and what do you have to say?
The reason why the public purchases puppies from so called BYB's and pet stores is because they are available. The public in general are looking for a puppy. Sadly for many this living breathing creature can be more of an impulse item then a planned purchase. I know more people who will do a ton of research on a car that they will only keep for three years and no research on a puppy that will live with them for a life time. You have to realize that it is much easier to find a puppy by surfing the net, reading the classifieds, or going to a pet store then it is trying to get in good graces with a show breeder or other sort of reputable breeder. Sadly it is the classifieds, internet, and pet stores that have puppies now. Most people are not willing to wait years to buy a puppy from any breeder or jump through a bunch of hoops to get one.

It is true. Since most of the dogs in shelters are young adults, they belonged to an ignorant owner. I blame ignorant owners more for dogs in the shelters then I do breeders.
Because people are ignorant, breeders don't care , and don't realize even dogs given mediocre care don't do much profit wise. Without breed devotees, they would would be overflowing with mutts, BYBs, and PETA nuts going on about exploitation while they shiver in their bikinis while our dogs would be driven to drivel.
