Heyy x ermm i might be getting a guinea pig soon and i have asked a few people about the feeding and one of my Friends has had a few guinea pigs and she said that this is what you have to do
In the evening: give them a bowl of dry mix and hay is optional
In the Day: Fruits and vegetables
And always a supply of water
Is this okay? If not could you please tell me WHEN and WHAT you feed your guinea pig please thank youu for all the answers xx
Hay isnt optional - its a necessity.
Your guinea pigs will need commercial pellets daily (go for actual pellets that look the same, not the muesli crap with coloured bits and seeds in it).
Fresh fruits and veggies daily too - more vegetables than fruits, and give a good variety.
and they need UNLIMITED supplies of hay - it helps with digestion as well as keeping their teeth in check.
It is also a good idea to get at least two guinea pigs - they are highly social animals and are much happier when kept with their own kind.

Hey well i have been a guinea pig owner for over 6 years now.
hay is not optional its a MUST, You guinea pig must have a fresh supply of hay every day in order to keep its digestive system regular, and as a general rule, you should allow your guinea pig to have as much hay as it will eat . It should be unlimited. put some in the cage and add more when its gone.
a good hay is timothy hay, and that is what almost everyone will recommend. You might be tempted to buy you guinea pig a different kind like the hay with the dried carrots or maybe the mint, but I am sorry they do not like that as much and its just a waiste of money.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Now to the pellets:
like your friend said, you should give a guinea pig a bowl of dry mix everyday (2-3 ounces)
Try to feed at the same hour each day, guinea pigs should have a routine. Remove any leftover pellets after an hour or so; if you let them stay in the cage all day, your guinea pig may nibble on them all day long. A diet that is heavy on pellets will lead to a fat guinea pig.
the best pellets are:

Water is an unlimited supply that your guinea pig should always have!
important about water is that it has to be fresh, so feel up the bottle with fresh water everyday.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com also because guine pigs cannot gain their vitamin c + by themselves like us, they need you to give it to them.
you can buy a bottle of vitamin C drops in the pet store. make sure its for guinea pigs. Then you have to add the number of drops to the water (as it says on the bottle). The vitamins should be added each time you replace the water, this is an important part of taking care of your guinea pig and keeping it safe!
And about the fruits and veggies:
here is a small list of what they can eat.
apples, bananas, bread (slightly stale & crunchy, but not moldy), broccoli, carrot greens, carrots and baby carrots, celery (cut into small pieces first), cilantro, cucumber, dandelion greens, grass, green & red bell peppers, green leaf & romaine lettuce, kale, kiwi, mustard greens, oats, oranges, parsley, raspberries, spinach, tomatoes.
just to let you know each guinea pig has its own taste and prefrences so i do not say your guinea pig will be okay with eating all of that: P

and here is a link to a table that gives you information about how much you can feed him from each.
guinea pigs can consume between 20-30 mg of vitamin C a day! so please notice what you are feeding it:)
its the left column out of the three ....

happy to help: D
Guinea pigs NEED an unlimited supply of hay. It is not optional. Hay keeps their teeth trimmed and their digestive system healthy. If they are over 6 months they need a grass hay like timothy hay. If they are under 6 months they need alfalfa hay.
