Is calcium sand safe for ferrets?

One of my ferrets digs like mad in the food bowl, and I read that giving her a dig box would help get her to stop, since it gets out her digging urges. One of the recommended materials is sand, so I bought some reptile sand from a pet store because the workers and I thought that if it was safe for reps it should be okay for ferrets.

It's "All Living Things Calcium Sand" ... I checked into it and calcium isn't bad for ferrets or anything, but I was just wondering if anyone else has used this for a small mammal pet or if anyone knows if it ' ll be safe for my ferrets.
How wonderful that you are providing some great mental stimulation and exercise for your ferret.

I use just plain dirt from outside. When it dries out I get new stuff.

The sand should be fine, but you will want it to be damp, otherwise it will just stick to him and end up in his nose and his nasal cavaties and eyes and ears. Dirt baths are also good for eliminating any residual odor they may have .

Let me know how he likes it.

I'm thinking it should be fine. Like I said, keep it damp so they can get some real resistance when they dig and it does not get into their lungs. The wetter it is the easier he will be able to make tunnels. Mine love all interesting the smells from outdoors that come in with the dirt. I also put a few sticks and even a log of firewood in with the dirt. They seem to love digging alongside of these or underneath them.
You could even mix the sand with the dirt to make it a little more soft.
