How do I treat my horses mud fever?

I have a 12 year old gelding that stays inside he doesnt go out except for maybe 2 times a week how should I treat his mud fever?
Hi,

The more he stays, the less mud fever he'll get.

You can buy some powders and creams to apply on the sore areas, even vaseline is good as its waterproof:)

Refrain from hosing the legs, its so much better to leave them muddy, and brush them once the mud has dried.

Keep his legs trimmed or clipped (depending what breed he is) You need to keep a close eye on it, and its alot easier when there isnt much hair there!

Also, if you do need to hose his legs, wash with hibiscrub, rinse off, and dry thouroughly with a towel ... LEGS MUST STAY AS DRY AS POSSIBLE!

Hope this helps
