I got a hedgehog over the summer so I never had to deal with this issue, but, it is getting colder and colder out and I have been putting off getting him a heating source. I have also noticed that getting heating sources can be quite expensive . His cage is a plastic hard shell kidee pool. I have an electric blanket that I won't be using this winter, could I put it under his cage and turn it on low? Would this be enough heat? Would it start a fire against the plastic?
Don't use the electric blanket, I can't imagine that would be very safe. Heat mats aren't all that expensive and are very cheap to run, but I'd recommend using them with a thermostat and they cost around £ 30. You could use a heat lamp, the bulb shouldn't need replacing that often at all, and they only cost like £ 5. You can also buy a dimmer switch really cheap too, and then lower the temp of the bulb at night so the hedgehog gets heat over night, too.
u can buy a heat in mat ask pet shop or vet hay news papers cut up but if it very cold it will sleep for winter i foster them every year also feral kittens as well they need to be 200 in weight to live through winter
