Have you ever wanted a chicken?

my grandparents and aunts and uncles have owned chickens before and there out of the country but i always thought they were really cool, until they were eaten=(

has anyone else wanted to have a chicken? i kind of want to have one as a pet.
I'm under oath to never bring home more chickens.:) All the same, they get along with the whole household - people, cats, and goats.

Chickens can make wonderful pets. Be sure to do plenty of research on how to care for your pet - they need appropriate food, shelter, protection from predators, and a little room to wander sometimes. Chicks will need special care, such as a brooder with a heat lamp until they're fully feathered and can handle being outside, and specially formulated chick feed. Different breeds are different sizes, can have different temperaments, and may be better suited to one environment or another. It's always a good idea to look at a few different breeds before making a choice.

My favorites out of the flock here are a black breasted red old english game bantam rooster, a buff brahma hen, and a buff silkie hen. The OE rooster is by far the smallest, makes a little more noise than the other two, but very sweet and full of personality. His awkward attempt at a crow (trying to compete with the bigger rooster) is just endearing. The brahma hen is very laid back, quiet, and calm, but she's much, much bigger than the other two. The silkie is the attention seeker. She's very friendly and I have to be careful of where I step - she's often right between my feet! Silkies can't fly and don't like to be up too high, so she's also the easiest to keep track of. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

You will need at least two chickens. Make sure to check with your city to see if there are any special laws. Some places won't allow roosters, or will restrict you to only two or three chickens. Knowing before buying can save a lot of heartbreak .. you don't want the city to come back and make you get rid of them:) Also, do a little research on vets in your area, and be prepared to be your own vet if you have to. I was surprised to find out (after I got my first chickens, of course!) that nobody within 1.5 hours of our house treats chickens!
I have 6 - I bought another fence for my garden and I let them roam free as they can 't leave the garden. (my garden is massive) I have some ramps for them a small plastic hut for them to sleep/lay eggs and a shady area for those sunny days. Chickens are really easy to keep as pets, and I would never kill mine. They eat almost anything too, but I still feed them the proper chicken food.

Sorry if i'm going on a bit, but yes, chickens are really good pets, and if you want some, read up on them (feel free to ask me) and then go to your local farm i'm sure they'd be able to sell or even give you some.
i have 7 pet chickens and i live in the city, they make great pets with bundles of personality and they will make you laugh with all there crazy antics.

when i first got them i was scared my cats would eat them but after a few minuits the chicks chased around the cats and told them whos who:) since then we've had no problems, there great in the summer when you can just pick up your favourite hen, sit her on your lap and watch her fall asleep:)

i really recomend chickens as pets and i would never kill mine, there pets just like the cats and they can live at my house as long as nature intended it:)
i prefer the kentucky-fried kind myself.
